Both print and embroidery are excellent decorating techniques, producing exceptional looking finished garments. However, there are many important points to consider when choosing one process over another.
List of garment decorating methods:
- Digital/ direct to garment
Quantity: different methods are more cost effective than others, so if this is the main decision-making factor for you, it’s good to have a selection of options.
Design: size, number of designs and level of detail. Printing is best to capture all levels of a design, such as gradients and intricate details. However, on a chest logo, embroidery looks very polished.
Timescale: some printing methods take longer than others, so if a short turnaround is required, it may be worth choosing a quicker option.
Use of the garment: embroidery is a very durable finish, which last the lifetime of a garment. However, for something like large lettering on a t-shirt, vinyl printing could work better.
Material of the garment: a very light material may not be suitable for embroidery, depending on the design.
